Disposal and cleaning services: severe weather event in February 2022 | Brisbane City Council

Brisbane City Council is helping Brisbane residents clean up and safely dispose of flood-related household waste. Residents can access services for free, including free resource reclamation rides, food waste delivery, and curbside pickup.

Free resource recovery trips

All resource recovery centers are open and accessible to the public. Residents and businesses can take property damaged by flooding and rainfall (as a result of flooding and rainfall from rivers, streams, and surface runoff) to the nearest Resource Restoration Center for free.

Extended hours have been introduced at the Willawong and Nudgee resource extraction centers to facilitate the delivery of flood-related debris. The Willawong and Nudgee Resource Extraction Centers are open daily from 6:30am to 9:00pm. We have a high demand so please be patient while we help our city get back on its feet.

Vehicle restrictions in Resource Reclamation Centers

Ferny Grove and Chandler Resource Reclamation Centers can only accept vehicles with a combined gross weight (CGVM) of less than 4.5 tons. Weight is measured using the weighbridge at the entrance to the Resource Recovery Center. For vehicles with a CGVM over 4.5 tons, please visit our Willawong or Nudgee Resource Recovery Centers only.

Please note that due to access restrictions at the Chandler and Ferny Grove Resource Reclamation Centers, trucks with more than two axles cannot be accepted.

Flood-affected curbside pickup service

The regular schedule for curbside collection of large items has been postponed as the council prioritizes flood and rain damage due to flooding and rain from rivers, streams and surface runoff.

A special curbside pickup affected by flooding will begin on Wednesday, March 2, 2022. Households can leave material at the side of the road for council contractors to remove. These roadworks will start in areas that have experienced creek flooding before moving to areas affected by the Brisbane River.

Food waste disposal areas around cities

From Wednesday 2nd March 2022, emergency food waste containers will be strategically placed in affected areas of Brisbane.

The orange and red temporary containers collect all spoiled food from households affected by flooding and power outages.

The food waste containers will be 360 liter containers and will be marked 'For food waste only'. They are inspected and collected daily by City Hall contractors.

Locations are subject to change based on accessibility and frequency of use and are intended for emergency food waste only.

Note: The containers will be installed starting March 2 and will all be in place by close of business on March 4, 2022.
