A Surprising Reason People Use Shaving Cream to Clean Their Bathroom Floors - 9Now

The toilet is one of those spaces where bad odors accumulate and retain, which tend to linger long after the toilet and surrounding floor have been cleaned.

An Aussie mom found a clever solution to this problem, using a product you'd probably never get to brush with, and it's super cheap too at just $2.30 a pack.

The woman told Facebook group Cleaning and Organizing Inspired Australia that she's had success using house-brand shaving cream to remove urine odor from her toilet.

"Three children in the house, including two and three years old. I finished the first one and it smells great so let's move on to the second bathroom now," she posted alongside three photos.

Her grooming trick resonated with other members of the group, attracting 570 comments, with many members revealing that they did too.

"Kills the smell of urine. I have two tweens and I let them do this in their bathroom every week!" a job.

According to reviews, shaving cream should be left on the floor for 10 minutes to an hour and then wiped off.

"It's not easy to clean, but the results are undeniable (and it's really just an extra mop of area after the main volume has been raised for the first time). I didn't believe it until I tried it," wrote another.

There's a catch though, the fresh smell doesn't always last until the next weekly cleaning and it requires lots of shaving cream every time you mop the floor.

"I think it lasts two days too. I'm trying a different brand because you only get a frigging half bottle of house brand if you run out of gas," one person commented.

Toilet floors aren't the only thing people have found to wipe off shaving cream. TikTok user Caroline, known as @neat.caroline , has found a total of five alternative uses, and that doesn't include hacking the toilet floor.

Caroline's shaving cream tips included cleaning fogged up glasses and polishing stainless steel appliances.
