The Kinks will be serving Muswell Hillbillies and they're all in show business - Analog Planet

Celluloid heroes never really die, and neither do The Kinks. That means The Kinks will be releasing Muswell Hillbillies / Everybody's In Show-Biz - Everybody's A Star in a deluxe box set that includes deluxe LP reissues of these two classic early 1970's Kinks albums, plus a brand new LP remix combined by Ray Davies. on September 9, 2022 via BMG.

The collection is matte direct gloss laminated in a deluxe rigid cardboard box containing 6 LPs (five of them on colored vinyl: blue for the two Muswell LPs, yellow for the three Show Biz LPs), plus 4 CDs, 1 BD, one 52-page book, printed band photos, Muswell ID and plaque. Separate and single versions of Muswell Hillbillies and Everybody's In Show-Biz - Everybody's A Star will also be available on black vinyl if you don't want to go big. Muswell will be released in its own 1 LP pop-up edition, while Show-Biz will be released in a 2 LP pop-up edition (see prices below).

The label confirms straight to me that the five color LPs in the big box weigh 140g, while the sixth black vinyl LP with 11 new 2022 Ray Davies remixes weighs 180g. (To hear these remixes in full, see the sidebar after the main story.) The vinyl was pressed by GZ in the Czech Republic. Kevin Gray of Cohearant Audio in Los Angeles recorded the Everybody's In Show-Biz LPs and the first Muswell Hillbillies LP, while Metropolis in London recorded the second Muswell Hillbillies LP and the Remixes LP . Muswell is the 2014 deluxe pop-up 2LP remastered from the newly discovered Ray Davies original masters, while Show-Biz is the 2016 deluxe pop-up 3LP also remastered from the original masters .

While the Big Box normally costs $199.99, you can pre-order it here at The Kinks Official Store for $174.98. Also included if you purchase the box set through the official Kinks store is a 1972 RCA Spanish 7-inch promo single for "Supersonic Rocket Ship" and "20th Century Man" in black and white, on a recreation of the Covers of the photo black vinyl. . — "while stocks last" according to traditional nomenclature. Meanwhile, the 1LP Muswell costs $29.98 and the 2LP Show-Biz costs $35.98. (And if you look closely at the actual LPs in the images below, you'll see that they reflect the orange RCA labels of yesteryear, although BMG takes the spot where the RCA name appeared.)

To get your Kinks juices flowing, check out the unedited version of Celluloid Heroes (2022 US Single Release Edition) below. Ray Davies wrote this classic Kinks song that reflects ordinary people striving to become Hollywood stars. The song names several famous actors from the 20th century film legend, including Greta Garbo, Rudolph Valentino, Bela Lugosi, Bette Davis and Marilyn Monroe. The track also mentions Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles, alluding to the Walk of Fame.

The facts about the origins of these two seminal Kinks albums are as follows. In 1971, The Kinks began a new phase in their career by signing with RCA Records. Freed from their former label Pye's insistence on producing hit singles, Ray Davies' songwriting accelerated the band's transition to a new identity as thematically ambitious and endearingly personal album makers, building on previous cult hits like The Kinks Are The Village Green Preservation in the Build November 1968. The release of the Muswell Hillbillies was supported by further touring throughout the United States, including two nights at New York's legendary Carnegie Hall on March 2 and 3, 1972. Tapes of these particularly thought-provoking shows, shows which were heavily supported at Muswell Material. The CD containing the 11 new unreleased remixes of Ray Davies tracks and tour montage is also hidden in a fold out folder but with new artwork.

The Blu-ray contains a previously unreleased and digitally restored film by Ray Davies from 1971, narrated by Ray and running for 15 minutes. Printed on glossy, fine art paper, the 52-page hardcover book includes detailed text with new quotes from band interviews, rare and never-before-seen photos, and related memorabilia.

The Kinks London Roots card is A2 size on uncoated sepia paper and highlights the band's north London roots with key Kinks-related historical locations chosen by the band. Other memorabilia include six glossy photos of Kinks from 1971-1972 and a custom yellow and black metal and enamel pin featuring the Kinks RCA logo. Completing the back of the box is a 12-inch colored paper insert showing and outlining all of the contents.
