Hinch fans offer advice on how to stop clothes smelling of mold - Glasgow Live

With the country in the midst of a cost-of-living crisis, many have sought to reduce their energy consumption. And one way to achieve this could be to reduce dryer usage.

But that can cause problems when trying to dry your clothes indoors while the winter weather lingers. You may find that the clothes in your house sometimes smell like mold after taking too long to dry.

The musty smell occurs when clothing is clinging to moisture, and the odor is especially pronounced when you haven't turned on the heater. And as many of us try to cut our heating bills while bills skyrocket, that's happening more and more. But Ms Hinch's fans came to the rescue after she shared a tip on how to fix the problem without spending a dime, reports The Mirror.

Supporters of the cleaning guru, whose real name is Sophie Hinchcliffe, say you don't have to wash your clothes again to get rid of the smell.

Speaking to Ms Hinch's Cleaning Advice Group on Facebook , a concerned fan asked: "I've been reading recently about people drying their clothes in winter because I'm having a hard time too. When I put them in my dryers they end up with a terrible musty smell and I end up washing them again because of the bad smell.

"How do you keep clothes from drying out?" I must be doing something wrong somewhere, thanks.

Comments have been inundated with people offering their advice, with many saying the simplest solution is to make sure your clothes are laid out in the dryer so they have plenty of room to dry.

Placing too many pieces too close together will restrict airflow, making clothes more difficult to dry. And the longer they take to dry, the more likely it is to smell musty.

One comment said: "I usually twirl my clothes around halfway through drying and make sure it's evenly distributed, it dries quickly."

Another wrote: "Hold onto a clothesline and stretch out if possible, hang things on hangers in front of radiators or open windows in mild weather.

"Also, put in a ventilated closet to finish when the hot water is running. I haven't turned on my heating yet and haven't smelled anything musty or not dry."

While someone else said: "I didn't even know that putting too many clothes in the dryer causes a musty smell. I invested in fragrance enhancers, a nice smelling laundry detergent, and it didn't work.
