Japanese fans help pick up rubbish at the 2022 World Cup - Reuters

Japanese fans added a layer of goodwill to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar when they cleared a stadium after a game their team didn't attend.

After the event's opening match between Qatar and Ecuador , fans dressed in Japan's national colors stayed behind to collect bottles and food wrappers left on the seats.

Influencer Omar Al-Farooq from Bahrain took up the situation and shared it on Instagram.

When Al-Farooq asked fans what prompted them to clean up the booth, they replied, "We're Japanese, we don't leave litter and we respect the place."

Also, Japanese fans picked up the thrown Qatari and Ecuadorian flags, which read that the two symbols "request respect."

This isn't the first time Japanese fans have shown favor at an international event. They did the same at the 2018 World Cup in Russia: even after a 3-2 penalty shoot-out defeat by Belgium, fans could be seen picking up rubbish and cleaning seats at the Rostov Arena.
