DELMARVA – From automatic feeders to self-cleaning litter boxes, there are many products designed to make life easier for you and your pets.
Dr. Marianne Bailey from Queenstown Veterinary Hospital knows all the pet supplies needed can seem a bit overwhelming. One item he recommends is an invisible fence inside your home.
"They have these panels that you can put in certain areas of your house when you don't want the dog to leave the house. Then they have a collar and it beeps when they get close, which scares them a little. It's not a hard shock.
Some other popular items tend to be a more personal decision, says Dr. Bailey. Automatic feeders can be useful if you have multiple cats or social feeders. Self-cleaning litter boxes like the Litter Robot can also be useful if you have a busy lifestyle.
When it comes to products that, according to Dr. Bailey isn't worth it, paw cleaner is at the top of the list.
"I wouldn't buy that. I think it's a waste of money. If you need to wash your dog or cat's paws, simply run them under water.
Dr. Bailey's best advice when purchasing products for your puppy or kitten is to ask yourself whether or not you really need them.
"There seem to be so many products, but I ask myself: why do we need them?" Is there really a problem we are trying to solve? It's very easy to click and buy, but many of them are just a waste of money.
Dr. Bailey also has several lists of pet products she recommends on Amazon, which you can find here .
