Living off the grid has led Cathy to find creative ways to live more sustainably and affordably. In one video, the TikToker says they keep plastic peanut containers that they fill with orange peels and white wine vinegar.

You can also add rosemary or mint. "It smells great and only costs pennies on the dollar," they say.

Cathy suggests letting the solution cure for about two weeks. You can then use it as an all-purpose cleaner to clean your floors or wipe down your countertops.

as help

Conventional cleaners effectively kill bacteria and germs, but their chemical ingredients are hazardous to health. For example, glass cleaners contain ammonia and isopropanol , which irritate the eyes, skin, nose and throat. Likewise, oven cleaners use highly caustic bleaches that can burn skin and damage textiles.

Replacing store-bought solutions with homemade solutions is much healthier and most of the ingredients can already be found in your pantry. You can save up to $90 a year by making natural cleaning products at home.

However, the environmental benefits are more impressive. Consider the dangerous bacteria found in untreated water. E. coli can cause kidney disease and gallbladder problems , while salmonella causes diarrhea, nausea and vomiting.

Given the variety of cleaning products with antibacterial and antiviral properties, improper disposal or spillage can lead to the development of resistant strains of bacteria and viruses and pose a threat to public health. Research also shows that disinfectants contribute to poor air quality and can cause asthma and rhinitis when airborne.

Reduce risk with safe and effective ingredients. To remove stovetop grime, make a paste of baking soda, water, and vinegar. Leave it on for 15 minutes and then lightly wipe off the grease.

You can also make a scrub by cutting a lemon in half and sprinkling the inside with salt. Use it to freshen up your kitchen sink before rinsing it off.

As a bonus , an eco-friendly tip : replacing paper towels with an old t-shirt will reduce waste and the number of plastic trash bags.
