Michigan residents warned that the website never sells coronavirus cleaners

LANSING, MI - Michigan residents are asked to exercise caution when ordering goods online after the Attorney General has received a complaint about a fake website that sells supplies that have never been received.

Prosecutor General Dana Nessel's office released a statement on the OkHomeOnline website on Tuesday, allegedly selling several popular items, including face masks, alcohol-based wipes, hand sanitizers, and toilet paper. However, after ordering, a Michigan resident says that he never received the products and that attempts to get to the store failed.

"Consumers should always be careful when shopping online, but caution is especially important at a time like this when public fear is high and fraudsters are trying to take advantage of the fear," Nessel said in a press release. "Finding the product and seller before you buy is never a bad idea and can help buyers fall victim to these predatory practices."

Upon receiving the complaint from the Michigan-based company, the nettle office found that several people had filed various complaints against the company in the United States. According to a press release, the phone numbers and addresses listed on the website appear to have been "stolen from other companies that do not manufacture or sell products related to the coronavirus".

Nettle's office focused on consumer complaints during the COVID-19 pandemic. An investigation was launched last month against a company in western Michigan that has been accused of fraudulently selling N95 masks to customers. The man who ran the business was charged with cable fraud in a federal court and is still under investigation by Michigan officials.

If you have a complaint, you can file it online or by phone at 1-877-765-8388 at the Attorney General's Consumer Protection Information. The opening times are Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

PREVENTION TIPS

In addition to washing your hands regularly and without touching your face , the authorities recommend social detachment, provided that everyone can become infected with the virus. Health officials say you should stay at least 6 feet away from others and work from home if possible.
