"We believe in creating sophisticated spaces through clean lines and hidden storage that not only enhance the visual harmony of the room but also fit our holistic lifestyle approach," says Zung.

Build a storage bench in the entryway.

For Tommy Zung of New York architecture firm Studio Zung , the key to adding storage is to focus on "overlooked spaces like entryways and thresholds and incorporate custom furniture with discreet storage options that fit perfectly into the overall design language." ."

For example, the elevator entrance of Zung's Maison Duane project features a custom-made bench made of European oak, the base of which is discreetly decorated with furniture pieces. With the graphic wood grain, the rounded silhouette and the slatted grille, the cabinets are hardly noticeable. "This not only provides a quiet seating area, but also serves as an elegant transition between nature and home," he explains. "Additional storage space complements the beautifully designed millwork."

"A tidy environment promotes a sense of calm and balance, enriches our daily lives and inspires us to focus on the things that really matter," says Zung.

Use shelves to support a bench.

Zung's clever storage seating designs are not just limited to the entryway, but also extend to the kitchen. For his Crosby House project, he designed a large U-shaped bench upholstered in dark caramel Edelman leather with a fine American walnut frame, fitted with open shelves at the back. "[It was] designed with storage capabilities in mind," he explains. It's certainly a cost-effective way to keep your favorite glasses and china within easy reach, but it can also be a place to display beautifully designed items, family photos, or other fun accessories without cluttering surfaces.
