"I don't know about you, but when I use vinegar, I always end up throwing away the first portion, filling the kettle with water, boiling it again, and repeating until the smell of vinegar is completely gone.

"When using the citric acid method, I found that all traces of limescale were easily removed and no smell or taste was left after draining the citric acid water and I was good to go.

"Because I have been able to avoid rinsing cycles, this is the most environmentally friendly alternative as I can save water and energy.

"Using citric acid to descale my kettle was very easy and effective. This will be my preferred method in the future.

To descale your kettle with citric acid, Jenessa recommends adding a tablespoon of citric acid, filling the kettle halfway with water and then bringing it to a boil.

Water with citric acid should stand for at least an hour; However, results can often be seen immediately.
