Keep your keyboard clean with these simple tips | Bona Magazine

In today's modern life, most students and professionals have swapped their pens and paper for the latest technology. Since computers and laptops tend to be the norm, most don't neglect cleaning what can be considered the most used part of the practical machinery: the keyboard.

The health-focused publication WedbMD says that keyboards are prone to corrosion damage due to spills and the accumulation of dust and dirt, and also require constant cleaning and maintenance. "They also represent a source of contamination as they can harbor many microorganisms, including pathogenic bacteria. »

WebMD lists the following tools you need to clean your keyboard:

  • Microfiber clothing
  • Paper napkins
  • Isopropyl alcohol
  • portable vacuum cleaner
  • cotton swab
  • Compressed air can

Because safety is paramount, the above post lists the following personal protective equipment (PPE) you should use:

  • Antistatic gloves (to prevent dirt from sticking to hands).
  • Safety glasses (to prevent dust and particles from getting into your eyes).
  • Household dust mask (to protect your respiratory tract from fine dust).

Follow WebMD 's instructions below to make writing an enjoyable experience:

  • Before you begin the actual cleaning, prepare your workspace by placing a towel or rag on a flat surface to catch any dirt. While wearing your PPE, turn off your device, unplug it and place it on the towel to clean.
  • Remove loose particles by rotating the keyboard and moving it from side to side.
  • Aim the can of compressed air diagonally at the keyboard and blow out the remaining fine dust. "It's important to maintain the angle or you risk getting coolant on the keyboard," explains WebMD .
  • Next, use the handheld vacuum to vacuum up any dust that the can of compressed air did not remove.
  • Dampen the cloth with isopropyl alcohol and gently wipe the keyboard surface.
  • Finally, for a more thorough cleaning, use a cotton swab dipped in isopropyl alcohol to get into the spaces between the keys.

Cleaning company Sparkle and Shine also shares that using a brush to remove dirt also works.

"The abundance of dirty keyboards has led to the development of specialized brushes for computer keyboards in various sizes and shapes," explains Sparkle and Shine . While toothbrushes can help remove stuck-on dirt, running a brush between the keys can remove dust from the keyboard.
