What you do before you start cooking may be bad for you this Memorial Day weekend

It's almost time to light the grill for the weekend commemoration, but you want to make sure you celebrate and cook safely.

Here are some tips to keep in mind for this weekend:

1. Take your time. All Texans know that the best breast was cooked slowly for at least ten hours.

2. Do not use synthetic fluids or fire initiators. The chemicals get into your kitchen, which knows as much as it tastes terrible for you.

3. Make sure your grill is not on a flammable balcony or within 3 meters of flammable walls. You probably do not want to spend your vacation weekend with the Houston Fire Department.

4. Always use a charcoal lighter, not gas to light the charcoal grill.

5. Do not forget the safety when cleaning. Always place your hot ash and embers in a nonflammable container until it is cool or saturated with water.
