Grogg's services offer tips on how to stay warm and safe this winter

BLENNERHASSETT, W.Va. (WTAP) - When the temperature drops, the stoves ignite . To help prevent fires and other dangers, Groggs home owner Tim Hanlon gives tips on how to stay warm and safe this winter.

According to Hanlon, problems with ovens can often be avoided during routine maintenance.

Cleaning the filter is one of the easiest ways, and the Department of Energy recommends that a certified professional inspect your stove about every 12 months.

"It's like changing the oil in a car. In fact, your stove works a lot better than your car. I wouldn't go without changing the oil and maintenance of your car, but a lot of people do it in your oven too, "said Hanlon.

For safety reasons, you should only use the radiators to heat a small room and ensure that there are no small animals or children nearby to knock them down.

Hanlon says if you want to reduce your energy consumption, you can restore the thermostat a few degrees, especially when you're not at home.
