Tank truck tips on the side, leaks cleaned

NELSON - An Automatic Utilities tanker slid from the passenger side into a ditch on the north side of Hughes Road in the city of Nelson on Monday evening.

The tanker carried approximately 700 gallons of heating oil and 200 gallons of unstained kerosene. The driver was not injured and got out of the truck. Morrisville Fire and Rescue and SEVAC Ambulance were sent to the scene.

The truck leaked diesel fuel from its fuel cell, which may have had 40 gallons of diesel fuel on board and crossed a sewer under the road in a swampy area. The Morrisville Fire Department provided a protective line and placed absorbent under the truck and on the south side of the sewer.

The Madison County Department of Emergency Management, the Spill Response of the Department of Environmental Conservation, the New York State Police, MCSO and the Department of Environmental Conservation responded.

The towing services outsourced by DEC and Big Red Trucking.

DEC Spill Response conducted an additional assessment and no further cleaning was required, the authorities said.
