In a group of cleaning enthusiasts, someone asked for help with their white sneakers after trying unsuccessfully to clean them.

The comment read: " Could someone please help me with these trainers?" I soaked them in water and washing powder overnight.

"Then put them in the laundry room, but it's like they haven't been cleaned at all.

Many users have responded with the products they use and with helpful advice.

"I always do mine with a bowl of warm water and a Milton lid or two (I don't use the cheapest sterilization fluids), I just hold the shoe in one hand and the sponge in the other," someone said.

"When you're done, wash it at 40 degrees with other white clothes. ONLY WHITE and add a lid to wash with your regular detergent. And please only use Milton brand."

Milton Sterilizing Liquid can be purchased from Wilko for £ 1 per liter.

If you are using bleach, it is advisable to mix a small amount with at least five times more water in a well-ventilated area.

Using a toothbrush, dip it in the diluted mixture and gently scrub the shoes.

Then use lukewarm water and let the shoes dry, preferably overnight.

"My son's conversation was a mess after a recent festival, I rubbed pink things on everything and machine washed it, they came back like new," added one.
