6 tips for a successful virtual interview

SAN ANTONIO - As the company has adapted to the new standard for planning virtual events, technology in the workplace continues to evolve to save time and improve efficiency.

There are more chances of getting interviews without leaving home. Many employers now use Zoom, Skype, or Microsoft teams for communication.

If you are conducting a virtual interview, consider the following steps before you meet with the interviewer.

1. Enter a clean, quiet, well-lit room.

Have a look around and find clean, well-lit areas to conduct your interview. Virtual interviews offer an intimate glimpse into your personal life.

Make a great first impression by keeping your space clean and limiting any noise pollution.

2. Test your technology first.

To be successful in a virtual interview, you need a good internet connection. Review your technology several times before the interview and before the interview.

Check your WiFi, video, and audio connections. Technological know-how is a great skill employers are looking for, especially as more companies focus on the work-from-home model.

3. Dress appropriately for success /.

Although the interview will be virtual, use what you would normally use for a face-to-face business interview. It's always best to get dressed for the job you want. Avoid light colors, stick to neutral colors. You don't want the dressing room to be the focus of the interview.

4. Maintain your professional virtual identity.

Please provide a professional email address or username when planning your employer interview. Once you use Zoom or Teams for the actual interview, your name description will appear and it's important to make a good first impression. Now is not the time for nicknames.

5. Have a list of notes ready.

It is important to be prepared during the interview; This means that you have all of your research and notes by your side. Find out about the company and the position you are seeking and have them ready.

6. Follow up.

After your interview, email the interviewer to reiterate your interest in the position and to thank them for their time.
