This viral TikTok is going to completely change the way you think about your 'clean' clothes

If you are an adult, washing your clothes , sheets, and other textiles will likely come naturally to you. However, in a now viral video, TikTok user @MrsLaurenElms reveals that the average washing and drying routine may not be enough to keep your clothes clean. Your solution for really clean laundry? A little thing called taking off clothes.

On TikTok, the video creator can be seen pouring a combination of Borax, Arm & Hammer Super Wash Soda, and Tide washing powder into a tub of water, followed by a large load of towels. After shaking off the towels and letting them sit for five hours, he returns and discovers the bathtub, which is filled with muddy-looking brown water. While it is said that many people have claimed that they simply see the result of a chemical reaction, experts say that removing clothes is the real problem.

"It can remove body oil buildup and make [fabrics] feel fresh," said Elizabeth Mullans , MD, a board certified dermatologist in Houston, Texas. According to Mullans, peeling is even a great option for sensitive skin as the traditional powder detergent used at TikTok can be replaced with a detergent that is colorless and odorless while also removing dirt and grime from clothing. other substances that may cause a reaction.

When it comes to taking off your clothes, Mullans says the TikTok recipe is correct: a combination of one part borax, one part washing soda, and two parts of your favorite laundry detergent, plus a clean tub or large bucket, is your best bet, stirring occasionally for four hours. Once that's done, Mullans recommends washing and drying your fabrics as usual. And while stripping clothes can be great for removing deep dirt from your sheets and towels, Mullans doesn't recommend doing it for all items of clothing.

"You might want to stick with white bath towels and bedding," says Mullans. "When trying the colored clothing method, avoid mixing a red shirt with white socks. Otherwise you could accidentally end up with colored clothing." Mullans also notes that this can be damaged with delicate items.
