How to clean any type of sofa

They know that microfiber is the soft, soft material that you can sit on very comfortably. What you may not know is that it is made from a mix of synthetic materials and your cleaning method will vary based on the specific mix.

According to Melissa Maker, founder of Canadian cleaning service Clean My Space, you should refer to the care label or fabric label for a cleaning code. These codes are as follows:

  • W: Clean with a water-based cleaner in liquid or foam form
  • S: Clean with detergent
  • SW: Clean with solvent or water-based cleaner
  • X: Simply vacuum without using cleaning solution

"Water-based detergents may contain hot, soapy water in store-bought upholstery cleaning solutions," Maker says. "For the solvent, you can use isopropyl alcohol by spraying it on the dirty areas , or you can find a solvent-based cleaner specifically for the upholstery. If you use a commercial cleaner, make sure it's an approved upholstery cleaner, and always follow the instructions on the package ".

If you're trying to remove a stain from a microfiber sofa, Maker recommends scraping or rubbing the material first. To dry the areas, use a clean cloth to remove dirt and stains. Then spray the surface with the solution to be used according to the care label.

But wait, you're not done yet. The place you dealt with may look different and you don't want it to stay that way. "To restore the fluff (the raised, fuzzy surface) to the fabric, use the scrub side of a non-scratch scotch-brite scouring pad [and] work in a simple S pattern," says Maker. "This simple step will help restore the nap and keep your furniture looking great."
