TWAW shares tips and rules about gun safety

In our last article, we talked about choosing a gun and highlighting the importance of education and training. Today we're going to discuss the four universal gun safety rules along with some other helpful tips. Even if you don't own a gun, or never intend to own one, we believe gun safety is something that everyone should at least be exposed to.

Here are the four generally accepted universal gun safety rules:

1. Treat all weapons as if they were loaded and always know the status of your weapon. When cleaning a gun, it is important to visually and physically check that it is not loaded. Even when you are sure the gun is unloaded, always treat it as if it were loaded.

2. Never point a weapon (loaded or unloaded) at something you do not want to destroy. Always point the gun in a safe direction away from innocent people, animals, and property.

3. Never put your finger on the trigger until your target is established and the decision to shoot has been made. Keeping your finger away from the trigger will reduce the risk of careless knocks, especially in stressful situations.

4. Always know what is beyond and around your goal. This includes what is on his left, on his right, and in front of him. You are responsible for every round you shoot until it stops moving. Bullets often pierce their targets completely. It is your responsibility to know the capabilities of your weapon, as well as the speed and distance of the flight path and rebound.

In addition to the four universal gun safety rules, here are some other helpful tips:

  • When firing a firearm, it is imperative to wear ear and eye protection to prevent damage to your eyes and hearing.
  • Keep your firearms safe so that those who should not have access to them cannot. Firearms possession is a serious responsibility and is of vital importance.
  • Regular cleaning and maintenance of your firearm is critical to its consistent and reliable performance.
