LENOIR COUNTY TRANSIT VEHICLE OPERATOR II (FULL-TIME) SALARY RANGE: $ 25,635 - $ 38,056

JOB DESCRIPTION: Performs work on the operation of a van or other vehicle to ensure the safe transport of passengers to and from various destinations. The worker can be called upon to serve the citizens of Lenoir in the event of a natural or man-made disaster. This service takes precedence over the duties described in this position, if required, as directed by the Director of Transportation or the Director of Operations.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND SKILLS: Responsible for the safety of the vehicle and passengers. Performs daily vehicle inspections for fluid and oil levels, tires, water, and batteries, including elevators. Keeps vehicles clean and free of dirt. Assists all passengers in boarding and disembarking vehicles, including packages. It requires the ability to record and provide information, explain procedures, and follow verbal and written instructions. You must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently in standard English. Keep accurate records as necessary; ie driver records, passenger records, manifest etc. Make all records available to the dispatcher on a daily basis. Communicates with the dispatcher by radio. Use the correct radio method. Maintains timetables to get passengers to specific points and times. Drive the routes assigned by the dispatcher. Be courteous and professional to passengers and staff at all times. It requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. You need to be able to adapt to minimal loads. It requires the ability to speak and / or instruct people to convey or exchange information. This includes receiving instructions, orders or instructions from superiors. It requires the ability to read a wide variety of maintenance reports and invoices. It requires the ability to communicate with a wide variety of people, including the elderly, the disabled, and the mentally handicapped. Appropriate clothing is required. Report vehicle problems to the dispatcher immediately. Follow the prescribed procedures according to the instructions.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: A high school diploma (or equivalent) or demonstrated ability to follow detailed instructions. Must be in possession of a valid Class C North Carolina driver's license. You must be familiar with Lenoir County's road network. No driver has earned more than four (4) points for motor vehicle violations under Section 20-16 of the North Carolina Bylaws during the two (2) years immediately following employment. You must be 21 years of age or older and have at least 3 years of driving experience. You must be able to communicate using a cellular device. The applicant must present a copy of the current driver's license during the interview. This position is subject to pre-employment, incidental, post-accident, and reasonable suspicion of drugs and alcohol, drug and alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Transportation Administration guidelines and local LCT guidelines.
