I've spent most of my adult life without a dishwasher, so I can only imagine the efficiency this would bring to my always messy kitchen. At high heat, the dishwasher can be ideal for disinfecting. It can also save a lot of time for those who like to cook or cook for a crowd. If you had a dishwasher, you would probably throw away as much of it as possible to prevent dishes from piling up in the sink. But there are some things that should never end up in the dishwasher, even if you're in a hurry.
Because of the high heat, harsh soap, and the possibility of colliding with other items, the dishwasher is not always the best place for certain items. For some things, a wash or two might not make much of a difference, but it could lead to more wear and tear over time. For others, such as cast iron pans or fine china, the damage may be more obvious.
These are things you should never put in the dishwasher. Are you not sure about something? You can hand wash it at any time.

cast iron
When it comes to cast iron , most people avoid washing to prevent the "seasoning" from fading. But even if you believe in cleaning with soap and water , the dishwasher is a big no-no. According to cast iron brand Lodge , the dishwasher not only removes these seasonings but also causes the cast iron to rust. Instead, follow our guide to keeping cast iron clean and seasoning.
Fine china and glassware.
This should be a piece of cake. Anything delicate, like porcelain or your favorite wine glasses with their delicate stems, should not be put in the dishwasher. If you are afraid of breakage, it is best to wash it by hand.
Kitchen knives and all sharp objects.
Even if it seems easier to throw the chef's knife or microplane in the dishwasher, you shouldn't do it. Not only does it pose a safety risk when mixed with many items, but the dishwasher can also damage a knife's blade and handle, and kitchen knives aren't always cheap. For other sharp objects like a cheese grater , it's probably better to reach all corners by washing your hands.
Wooden utensils and cutting boards.
Keep this beautiful olive cutting board out of the dishwasher. Unless you want dry, cracked, and warped cookware, the best way to wash anything made of wood is in your old sink. Between heat and water, the dishwasher is the worst enemy of wooden products, which require hand washing and oiling to keep them in perfect condition.
Aluminum kitchen utensils
Whether it's an aluminum baking sheet or aluminum foil, keep it out of the dishwasher so it doesn't tarnish or get scratches. Although washing in the dishwasher will result in some discoloration, Nordic Ware says this is only cosmetic and has no impact on the safety or function of the product.
Dishes
Depending on the material, you can put some pots and pans, especially the smaller ones, in the dishwasher. But it's better to avoid it. Pots and pans are often an investment and the harsh environment of the dishwasher can damage certain surfaces. Always follow cleaning instructions.
