Mrs Hinch enthusiasts have shared their top tips for keeping towels soft and fluffy and revealed the secrets of the washing process.
Many factors contribute to towels becoming hard and uncomfortable to use. The most common causes for this are hard water, too much detergent or overfilling the washing machine.
This is often because the combination of minerals in hard water, the friction of the wash cycle, and detergent residue transform our once luxurious towels into something less desirable.
Facebook user Gemma Driscoll struggled with "scratchy" towels, which led her to seek advice on the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips Facebook group. She asked, "I use fabric softener/conditioner when I wash my clothes, but my towels in particular are quite rough and don't stay soft when line dried outside." How can I prevent this? I don't have a dryer. At the moment."
The cry for help sparked numerous reactions from Hinch's supporters. Many advised her to avoid fabric softener altogether, reports the Express .
Karen Hilton offered her own experience and said, "I never use fabric softener on towels because it makes them hard; I just use a detergent tablet."
Bonnie Brown added to the conversation: "Exactly. Fabric softener actually leaves a film on the towels that prevents them from becoming soft. It also binds odors. When you stop using it, the towels will be back to their original condition after a few washes." Original condition. Original condition". its original condition.
Jennie Green shared a similar opinion, saying, "I never use softer fabrics for towels. This clogs the fibers."
Fans of cleaning guru Mrs. Hinch suggest resorting to white vinegar and baking soda to save scratchy towels.
Diane Thompson offered an alternative solution: "I use white vinegar without fabric softener, they don't get soft either and are odorless."
Despite its misleading name, fabric softeners or fabric softeners can actually reduce a towel's absorbency by coating its fibers, resulting in a rough, itchy feeling.
Sonia Wright explained on social media: "I mean, you'd think the clue would be in the name of the product, but fabric softeners actually do that to clothes. Towels are the worst."
"Perhaps using less could help improve it. Nevertheless, white vinegar acts as an emollient. Try washing and drying normally to see the difference."
Kathryn Hopkins added: "White vinegar in the laundry also kills bacteria. Anna Barr Todd simply said, "Vinegar and baking soda."
Karin Lane shared her personal approach to washing towels and advised: "Set the temperature on your washing machine to 30 degrees. Do not overfill the washing machine drum. Add half a cup of baking soda directly to the laundry. Add 1/2 cup of white. Add vinegar to your rinse cycle and add essential oil to keep your towels smelling good.
Since white vinegar can cut through the layer of the towel, it is highly recommended as a natural fabric softener. This everyday pantry item can not only break down fabric softener residue but also eliminate the unwanted rough texture.
