Brother of Murdered Austin Woman Speaks Out About Arrest in Cold Case - KVUE

Charles Wolfe said his sister, Susan Wolfe, loved helping people.

AUSTIN, Texas - After 44 years, Austin police say they have found one of those responsible for the 1980 murder of 25-year-old Susan Wolfe .

Her brother, Charles Wolfe, said his sister loved helping people and studying to be a nurse.

"I see a person who cared about others, who had so much promise. That faded away in the prime of his life," Charles Wolfe said.

On January 9, 1980 , Susan Wolfe was abducted on Franklin Street as she walked to a friend's house, according to police . A witness told police a car was stopped and the driver got out and grabbed her.

Susan Wolfe was found dead the next day. According to police, she was sexually assaulted, attacked in strange ways and shot in the head.

"An open wound that ran through our family," said Charles Wolfe.

Now, four decades later, police say DNA linked Deck Brewer Jr. to the crime, prompting a court to issue a murder warrant. However, Brewer is currently serving a sentence in a Massachusetts prison for an unrelated crime.

"More than four decades of unsolved case," said Charles Wolfe. "This is one path...the first step toward closure, but we will not rest until those responsible for this heinous crime are brought to justice."

Charles Wolfe said he never gave up hope and wanted Brewer extradited to Austin.

Police say they are still searching for a second person they believe was in the car with Brewer the night Susan Wolfe was murdered.

Austin police said Massachusetts authorities will not extradite Brewer until his current sentence ends on Wednesday, August 28. After that, the Travis County Sheriff's Office will decide how to transport it to Texas.
