Grants help make northern beaches greener and cleaner

The Northern Beaches are becoming greener and cleaner with the help of two grants from the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA).

The WASM* Waste Prevention Grant Program, which will award $404,000 over three years, will help the council implement initiatives to address waste in the local environment.

The funding will support the delivery of the Council's wider waste and circular economy strategy and strengthen the capacity of both the Council and the community to tackle waste.

Activities include awareness campaigns and targeted local initiatives in our city centers to help prevent waste in the first place. We will also be working with certain local businesses to help phase out unnecessary single-use items and switch to reusable systems where possible.

In addition, the council received an additional $120,000 to address issues of illegal dumping.

The Illegal Dumping Grant will support an education program to combat the illegal dumping of bulky waste from households in densely populated areas of the Northern Beaches, including homes. This will help improve the cityscape and reduce the environmental impact of dumped material.

Further information on the council's waste and circular economy strategy can be found here.

This project is a New South Wales Environmental Protection Authority strategic waste and sustainable materials initiative funded by Waste Levy.
