How to clean a carpet for a longer life

You run them every day, probably going to the outside of the earth, but how often do you really clean your carpets ? No, we are not talking about the occasional vacuum cleaner , we mean that you should thoroughly clean your carpet. If the answer is "not enough" (or even "What? Should I do this?") No judgment, but we're here to help. I contacted our friends, carpet experts Loloi , to advise us on deep cleaning of any type of carpet. Here you will find everything you need to know.

How to clean different types of carpets.

  • Wool: A natural sheep fiber that is very durable and can be cleaned with a wool detergent.
  • Silk: a natural fiber that is somewhat more sensitive than wool; Clean with a mixture of equal parts of water and white vinegar.
  • Polyester: Polyester is quite dirt-repellent, but if you need cleaning, you can do it with a light detergent (just like wool).
  • Cotton: Often used in flat woven carpets. Many cotton carpets can be machine washed on a gentle cycle with warm water (see care instructions).
  • Jute: Jute is NOT waterproof, so it shouldn't get wet. If your burlap mat needs to be cleaned thoroughly, contact a professional service.
  • Sisal Sisal carpets are not waterproof; If the water leaves a stain, wipe it off immediately and opt for professional cleaning if necessary.
  • Vintage: The vintage carpets can be much more delicate than the new ones, so check ours for cleaning specific guidelines.

    How to vacuum a carpet

Frequency: Your carpets must be vacuumed regularly (depending on use, every few days a week), experts from Loloi say. Here are his tips:

    • For carpets with normal pile, it is recommended to vacuum weekly

    • Shake long-pile carpets outdoors to remove dirt and other particles.

    • With rolled and braided carpets you have to remove the setting of the mixing bar on your vacuum cleaner. If it cannot be removed, set the vacuum to the highest possible setting (e.g. distance to the floor, not electricity).

How to clean a carpet thoroughly

Carpets can be cleaned on stains. But they need to be cleaned thoroughly every few months or a year. The following procedure is suitable for wool and polyester carpets; You can clean silk carpets using this method, but replace the detergent with equal parts of water and vinegar.
