Clear liquid dish detergent is effective at removing stains from carpets. The trick is not to use too much. Mix only 2-3 drops of dish soap with 1 cup of warm water. The drops must be very small. Too much detergent can leave a sticky residue that attracts dirt, dust, and grime.
Dip a white towel or paper towel in the solution and gently rub the stain from the outside edge to the center. After removing the stain, rub the stain again with a white towel to remove any remaining cleaning solution. Detergent works best on water-soluble stains. Use only clear, bleach-free dish detergent.
