8 tips to keep your bag clean

According to one study, there could be up to 10,000 bacteria in your pocket. In fact, it contains more bacteria than the average toilet seat, "explains Casey Rousseau of 1st Woman Insurance.

Since bags travel a lot and are constantly exposed to a variety of surfaces, they can become a coronavirus magnet. According to recent research, the coronavirus can survive in your pocket for several days.

Eight tips from 1st for Women to neutralize bag germs:

  • Clean your bag daily with disinfectant solution or disinfectant wipes. Thorough and regular cleaning of bags and purses made of genuine leather is particularly important, as their fluffy texture provides the perfect conditions for germs to grow and spread.
  • Keep your wallet away from germ-prone areas. Do not place it in high risk areas, especially bathroom tables, kitchen tables, and floors.
  • Always keep your bag tightly closed.
  • Use disinfectant wipes to clean items in your purse, including makeup and cell phones. Be sure to clean the bottom of the bag and the handles.
  • Soak the lipstick tube in alcohol for 15 to 30 seconds, then wipe the top layer of lipstick to clean it properly. Leave the lipstick and mascara in the freezer overnight to kill bacteria and viruses.
  • Check the contents of your handbag regularly to remove unnecessary items such as empty hand lotions or lipsticks.
  • Prevent dirt, debris, and trash from building up at the bottom of your bag. Used tissue is one of the worst culprits as the flu virus can live there for up to 12 hours.
  • If you have groceries in your purse, make sure it is sealed in a plastic bag or container.
