Spring cleaning brings McKinney to the garbage disposal

All McKinney residents appear to have received the same spring cleaning memo.

Due to the surge in garden waste, municipal contractor Waste Connections is currently "half a day behind collecting garden waste," the city tweeted on Wednesday.

The city is asking residents to put junk on the curb and it will be picked up before 7 p.m. the next day.

The city offers the following tips on how to dispose of waste:

  • Members should be cut into four foot lengths and tied with string or string (not ribbon or string) in packages of 50 pounds or less.
  • All grass and leaf waste should be placed in brown paper bags.
  • The limit of 10 bags or 10 lots or a combination cannot exceed 10 items in total.
  • Mulch, dirt, concrete, stones or plastic bags are not collected.

The garbage is automatically picked up weekly on the day of the garbage collection by the residents with a garbage truck without planning. For more information, contact Waste Connections at 469-452-8000.

The annual Arts in Bloom Festival in historic downtown McKinney takes place in April each year. This year the distribution was "redesigned".
