Cleaning: How to clean your mattress for under £ 5 in just five quick and easy steps

Many Britons don't clean their mattresses regularly, which means bacteria and dust mites build up frequently. Washing the sheets and changing pillows is not enough to keep the bed free of insects. Mattress Online showed how you can safely clean your mattress in just five easy steps for less than £ 5.

3. Deodorize with baking soda

Many Brits have seen Hinch's baking soda mattress being hacked.

Mattress Online also recommends doing something similar by sprinkling a small amount of baking soda on the mattress.

The baking soda absorbs moisture and removes unpleasant odors.

Make sure the baking soda stays for an hour before you soak it up completely.

5. Turn your mattress over

If your mattress is double sided, consider cleaning the other side as well.

If you only have one mattress on one side, vacuum the other side to remove any build-up of dust.

Steve Adams, CEO of Mattress Online, said cleaning sheets was "not enough".

He added, "A clean mattress also helps minimize allergy symptoms caused by hay fever or asthma.

"It is recommended that you clean your mattress at least once a month.

"It only takes 40 minutes of work and an hour of waiting to deodorize your mattress and keep it fresh.

"Plus, it costs less than £ 5 for the necessary cleaning supplies, making it a cheap dust and allergy solution and giving you a better night's sleep."
