Bissell has recalled 3.2 million portable steam cleaners in the U.S. because these devices can emit hot water or steam at the user when heated or in use, which can cause burns. Around 355,000 additional steam cleaners were sold in Canada.
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission's product recall notice, Bissell received 183 reports of hot water or steam escaping from the product, including 157 reports of minor burns.
Consumer Reports reviewed the Bissell Steam Shot portable steam cleaner and sanitizer . During our evaluation, we found that the housing of the steam cleaner became very hot during operation and hot water would leak from the lid if we forgot to empty the water tank before refilling it.
