The secret to removing mold stains from clothes is hidden in your medicine cabinet

Mold is probably the worst stain you can get on your clothes. It makes them look disgusting and potentially dangerous to your health.

But according to an expert, there's a simple solution that can remove unsightly stains and restore your clothes .

All you need is an item that's probably already in your medicine cabinet; Otherwise, you can find it for a few dollars in supermarkets and pharmacies.

Deyan Dimitrov, CEOof Laundryheap , recommends using aspirin tablets to make a stain removal paste.

"Aspirin contains acetylsalicylic acid, which helps remove stains, whiten white clothing and even fight mold spores hidden in fabrics," he said.

"This is a real game-changer for anyone whose towels have yellowed shirts, sweat stains or the smell of mold."

To make the paste, crush five aspirin tablets, mix them with water, then apply to the stain and leave for 30 minutes. After the time has elapsed, wash as usual.

Dimitrov said you can add white vinegar or lemon to the dough if you want to give it more oomph.

He added that you can also soak clothes overnight in a mixture of aspirin dissolved in water before washing them normally.

Aspirin is also effective against mold on curtains, while dissolved aspirin can be added to the detergent drawer of your washing machine to clean the appliance.

Aspirin isn't the only medicine cabinet item that can be used to remove stains; hydrogen peroxide is also recommended .

Dry cleaner Zach Pozniak found hydrogen peroxide to be so effective at combating common laundry problems that he said it "should be an essential part of your laundry routine."

Hydrogen peroxide, a type of non-chlorine bleach, is generally safe to use on colored clothing and costs about $4 at supermarkets and pharmacies.

In the past, it was most commonly used as an antiseptic for cuts and abrasions, but it also makes an excellent cleaner and disinfectant.

The main task for which Pozniak recommends using hydrogen peroxide is restoring yellowed or yellow-stained white clothing and linens.

The process is simple: just spray it on and let it dry indoors without direct sunlight. It may take four to eight hours before you see results.

"It takes a while to get it working. So be patient and you may have to repeat this process," he said about hydrogen peroxide in a TikTok video .

"It is always advisable to check the care label of a garment to ensure it is washable before using hydrogen peroxide, as it is 97 percent water. If you're not sure, test what you want to wear in a small, hidden area first," she added.

Hydrogen peroxide can also be used to remove mold and mildew stains from fabrics.

To remove traces of fungus, spray hydrogen peroxide on the affected area and leave it for 10 minutes before washing normally. If your hydrogen peroxide bottle doesn't have a spray function, you can also pour it onto the stain.
