Here is a list of CDC recommendations for cleaning and disinfecting the environment:

  • Wear disposable gloves and ensure good ventilation when using the product. Wash your hands after taking off your gloves.
  • Use detergent or soap and water to clean and dilute household bleaching solutions (5 tablespoons of bleach per gallon of water or 4 teaspoons of bleach per liter of water) or alcoholic solutions containing at least 70% alcohol for disinfection. Never mix bleach with ammonia or any other detergent.
  • Use EPA-approved disinfectants, including Clorox + bleach, multi-surface cleaner, and Lysol Professional disinfectant spray , and follow the directions on the label. Check the expiration date.
  • Concentrate on frequently touched surfaces such as tables, door handles, light switches, handles, desks, toilets, taps and sinks.
  • If someone is sick at home, the bathroom should be cleaned and disinfected after each use.
  • Clean porous surfaces such as carpets and curtains. Wash as hot as possible and dry the items thoroughly.
  • Wear disposable gloves when handling dirty clothing, towels, sheets, and other items that get into clothing. Do not shake dirty clothes. Use the hottest water setting and dry the items completely. Clean and disinfect the laundry baskets.
  • Wear gloves when removing garbage bags, when handling and disposing of garbage. Wash your hands after handling or disposing of garbage.
