The city warns residents not to mix certain detergents

KINGMAN - The City of Kingman advises residents not to mix certain cleaning chemicals as certain mixtures can cause health problems.

"The city of Kingman reminds the community that at a time when people are concentrating on cleaning and disinfecting homes and work areas, there are chemicals that people should never mix," the city wrote in a statement.

The city pointed out that bleach and vinegar should never be mixed, as the mixture produces chlorine gas, which can cause coughing, breathing problems, burns, and cracks.

Bleach and ammonia should not be mixed as this creates chloramine, a toxic gas that causes shortness of breath and chest pain.

The bleach should not be mixed with isopropyl alcohol as the resulting mixture is highly toxic chloroform. Hydrogen peroxide and vinegar are also on the list of products that cannot be mixed. In combination, these products produce peracetic acid / peroxyacetic acid. This acid can be very caustic, the city said.
